Meeting with foreign reporters held in HCM City
The April 30 victory 35 years ago was an indispensable outcome for Vietnamese patriots who wanted to drive off foreign invaders and an end of the war soon, the witnesses told international reporters, who are in the city for the commemoration of the event.
Nguyen Huu Hanh highlighted the clear signs of the country’s development, saying that after April 30, 1975, the Vietnamese people, in the spirit of national reconciliation, overcame the after-effects of the war and rebuilt the country.
Starting from a situation where there was not enough food for domestic consumption, Vietnam is now the world’s leading rice exporter. All people are now studying and following President Ho Chi Minh’s moral example, including the spirit of reconciliation, and the solidarity of the whole nation, Hanh said.
“We have been implementing the national reconciliation,” Hanh affirmed.
At the meeting, the historical witnesses conceded that there were difficulties in the economy and people’s living conditions after 1975, partially attributable to the US embargo.
Since transitioning to a market economy, the country has made considerable progress, Trieu Quoc Manh said./.
