VNA 06/06/2010 - A high-level Vietnamese delegation led by Vice State President Nguyen Thi Doan left Hanoi on June 6 for the third Conference on Interaction and Confidence-Building Measures in Asia (CICA) slated for June 7 and 8 in Istanbul, Turkey, at the invitation of the Kazakh and Turkish Presidents.

This is the first time Vietnam attended such a conference. The country is expected to sign the Alma Ata Declaration on principles of adjusting relations among member countries to become an official CICA member.

Vietnam will continue to promote its foreign policy of diversification and multilateralisation of relations with all countries at the international forums to strengthen its increasingly important role in addressing issues related to economics, politics and security in the region and the world.

The CICA conference is an open international forum that was established in 1992 with the participation of 20 member countries, including Russia, China and India, and 10 observer countries including the US , Japan and Ukraine and representatives from the UN, the Organisation for Security and Cooperation in Europe (OSCE).

The conference plays an important role in resolving regional issues and promoting cooperation and development among members./.
