PM arrives in Toronto for G-20 Summit

VNA 26/06/2010 - Prime Minister Nguyen Tan Dung arrived in Toronto , Canada , in the evening of June 25 (local time) to attend the G-20 Summit.

This is the first time Vietnam takes part in the G-20 Summit and especially as Chair of the Association of the Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN).

Representing Vietnam and ASEAN, PM Dung will join all discussions on global economic issues and hold bilateral meetings with several countries’ leaders on the sidelines of the summit.

Dung’s presence at the summit will reaffirm ASEAN and Vietnam ’s role in the international community and boost relations between Vietnam and G-20 members, especially with its priority partners.

The G-20 Summit takes place in the circumstance that the world economy is recovering faster than expected. However, big challenges - rising government debts in most of the large economies, serious unemployment in many countries, unsustainable development and surging inflation in emerging economies - are still ahead.

In that context, the summit will focus its discussions on the implementation of recommendations and resolutions approved in G-20 to ensure sustainable recovery and development of the world economy.
Restructuring of the economy for growth in the long term and prevention of systematical risks, promotion of trade liberalisation, further reform of regional and international monetary and financial institutions are put high on the summit agenda./.
