Vietnam now ranks 27th out of the countries that export to the US, earning over 4 billion USD, a year-on-year increase of 13.5 percent while Vietnam’s imports from the US stood at over one billion USD, an increase of 33.4 percent over the same period last year.
During the period, Vietnamese garments exports earnt 1.77 billion USD, increasing 10.83 percent over the corresponding period last year and accounting for 6.49 percent of all garments that the US imports.
Wooden products and interior fittings lie second on the list, making 522 million USD, a year-on-year increase of 25.4 percent. Vietnam has also become the fourth largest exporter of decorative woodwork to the US, recording a turnover of 509.8 million USD, an increase 25.3 percent over last year.
Vietnam’s footwear exports recorded a turnover of 468.8 million USD, 1.96 percent higher than the same period in 2009, making Vietnam the second biggest exporter to the US market only after China.
Also in this period, the export of agricultural products increased by 15.7 percent to 224 million USD, ranking fourth in value amongst the country’s key export items to the US market.
The country is still the sixth largest exporter of aquatic products to the US with a turnover of 190.5 million USD, a year-on-year increase of 10.3 percent. This includes 44.3 million USD 3,342 tonnes of tra and basa fish .
Meanwhile, Vietnam’s imports from the US market in the first four months reached 1.097 billion USD, an increase of 33.4 percent over the same period last year and mainly included cattle feed, unprocessed meats, machinery, vehicles, cotton and wooden products.
According to statistics released by the Vietnam Trade office in the US, Vietnamese exports to the US market are expected to rise by 15 percent over last year, to 14.2 billion USD./.
