Việt Nam and China organized a ceremony this morning at the Thanh Thủy Border-gate (Hà Giang Province) to celebrate the event.

These three documents were signed between the two countries on November 18, 2009.

Speaking at the event, Mr. Hồ Xuân Sơn, Vietnamese Deputy FM, Chairman of the National Committee for Border Affairs, and his Chinese counterpart Zhang Zhijun highlighted the importance of the documents, which finalize the settlement of land border issues between Việt Nam and China during the past 36 years.

The two sides agreed that the event marked a new milestone in the history of the bilateral ties, forming premises to maintain a peaceful, friendly, stable, and long-lasting borderline.

The two Deputy FMs asked ministries and localities of both sides to strengthen coordination to effectively enforce documents relating to land border between the two neighbors.

The Việt Nam-China land borderline is 1,449.6km in length, including 383.9km of rivers and streams. Exactly, 1,971 landmarks were planted along the line.

The system of landmarks and the three above-mentioned documents are considered the firm legal framework to secure a peaceful, friendly, stable, and long-term borderline.

After the introduction ceremony, the two sides held talks in Hà Giang Town to identify measures to implement the above three documents. They agreed to establish a Việt Nam-China Joint Committee on land border.
