Summer activities announced for young Vietnamese overseas
VOV, July 13rd, 2010
Around 150 young Vietnamese who have returned from overseas will take part in the 2010 Vietnam Summer Camp, starting in Ho Chi Minh City on July 15 and ending in Tuyen Quang province on August 4. They will join their compatriots at home in cultural exchanges and sports games in 11 provinces and cities across the country.
They will attend a Buddhist requiem to honour Vietnamese volunteer soldiers who laid down their lives in Cambodia and on the South-Western Border front. The mass will be held at Tan Bien cemetery in Tay Ninh province by the National Committee for Overseas Vietnamese Affairs, the Tay Ninh provincial People’s Committee and the Vietnam Buddhist Sangha.
A cultural week in the lead up to Hanoi’s millennial anniversary will take place from July 27 to August 2. It will include a procession of the Ly Kings tablets to Hoang Thanh (the former Thang Long Royal Citadel), a Buddhist mass to pray for national peace and prosperity, a lantern festival and a televised programme linking Hanoi, Vientiane and Paris.
