Forging bilateral ties with Russia, Canada, Turkey

Deputy PM, FM Phạm Gia Khiêm on July 22 separately received Foreign Ministers of Russia, Canada and Turkey in order to discuss measures to boost the bilateral friendly and cooperative relations with these countries.

When speaking to Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov, Deputy PM Phạm Gia Khiêm highly appreciated Russia’s participation in activities of the ASEAN Regional Forum (ARF) and the strengthened Russia-ASEAN dialogue partnership.

The two sides discussed the facilitation of the Việt Nam-Russia strategic partnership and comprehensive cooperation, as well as the stronger coordination of actions on international and regional forums.

Việt Nam and Russia agreed to prepare for Russian President Medvedev’s visit to Việt Nam and closely coordinate for the good organization of the upcoming second ASEAN-Russia Summit.
On the occasion, Mr. Khiêm and Mr. Lavrov signed a plan on cooperation in the 2011–2012 period between the two foreign ministries.

Receiving Canada’s Foreign Minister Lawrence Cannon, Deputy PM Khiêm highly spoke of Canada’s entry to the ASEAN Treaty of Amity and Cooperation (TAC) and stronger commitments to peace, stability and cooperation for development in the region.

The two sides agreed to take specific measures to strengthen the bilateral ties, especially in the fields of economy, trade and investment, and accelerate negotiations to soon sign the Việt Nam-Canada investment protection agreement.

In talks with Turkish Foreign Minister Ahmet Davutoglu, Deputy PM Khiêm welcomed Turkey’s joining the TAC.

The two sides discussed measures to beef up the bilateral multifaceted relations, especially trade with the two-way trade turnover target of US $1 billion in the coming time./.
