Vietnam-Thailand relationship gets stronger

VNA 06/08/2010 - Vietnam and Thailand’s relationship keeps getting stronger, especially in economics, said Vietnamese Ambassador to Thailand Ngo Duc Thang, on the 34th anniversary of diplomatic ties between the two countries.

As neighbours, Vietnam and Thailand are very similar in many respects, especially their agriculturally based culture and historical ties which have contributed to their mutual development and benefited ASEAN.

According to the Ambassador, economic ties between the two countries have blossomed in recent years. In 2009, two-way trade reached 6.1 billion USD and the two countries are targeting 10 billion USD in the near future.

At present, Thailand has 216 projects worth 5.7 billion USD underway in Vietnam, becoming the 8 th largest investor in the country.

In the first six months of the year, despite difficulties, two-way trade still increased, with Vietnamese exports to Thailand rising by 4 percent and Thai imports to Vietnam surging to 43 percent./.
