Vietnam seeks to deepen ties with Poland

VNA 10/09/2010 – Vietnam wants to deepen its multifaceted cooperation with Poland and make the ties more efficient, State President Nguyen Minh Triet has said.

Receiving visiting Polish Prime Minister Donald Tusk in Hanoi on Sept. 10, President Triet affirmed that Vietnam considers Poland as its traditional friend and leading partner in central Eastern Europe.

He also welcomed the Polish PM’s visit to Vietnam on the occasion of the two countries’ 60th anniversary of diplomatic ties.

PM Tusk’s visit is an important event that is expected to consolidate and boost the traditional friendship and multifaceted cooperation between Vietnam and Poland, especially in economy and trade, President Triet said.

Vietnam wants Poland to promote investment into Vietnam, expand relationships with ASEAN countries and Asia, the President said, adding that he also wants Poland to be a bridge for Vietnam to boost its presence in central Eastern Europe .

He welcomed the commitment by Vietnam and Poland’s Prime Ministers to open a direct flight route between the two countries, saying this will make a breakthrough in economic and trade cooperation for both nations.

The President took this occasion to thank the Polish people for their support for Vietnam’s struggle for national liberation in the past and the country’s construction and development at present.

He also thanked the Polish government for its assistance to the Vietnamese community living in the European country and expressed hope that Poland ’s authorities and people would continue to create favourable conditions for Vietnamese people there.

PM Donald Tusk spoke highly of Vietnam’s position and prestige in the region and the world.

He also informed his host of his talks with his Vietnamese counterpart Nguyen Tan Dung.

Poland attaches importance to friendship and cooperation with Vietnam, especially in economy, trade, culture and science and technology and will make more efforts to increase ties between the EU and Vietnam, the PM said.

The Vietnamese community have made positive contributions to Poland, he affirmed.

The same day, PM Donald Tusk, his spouse and his entourage left Hanoi, successfully wrapping up his official visit to Vietnam./.
