VNA 02/12/2010 - A delegation from the Vietnamese Mekong Delta province of An Giang met with the Laotian Deputy Prime Minister Somsavad Lengsavath in Laos on December 1.

At the meeting, Chairman of An Giang provincial People’s Committee Lam Minh Chieu, who is visiting Laos from November 26 until December 2, briefed his host on the outcomes of his visits to Champassak and Savannakhet provinces.

He informed the Lao Deputy PM of An Giang’s strengths in rice cultivation and fisheries, especially basa fish breeding and proposed that Vietnam , Laos and Cambodia should reach a transit agreement which would allow Cambodia to serve as a gateway between Vietnam and Laos to help promote trade and tourism in the region.

The Lao Deputy PM asked An Giang province to encourage its businesses to look for areas of cooperation in Laos such as agriculture and fisheries, especially in the Boloven Highland region.

He said he hoped that at the next meeting between Vietnam , Laos and Cambodia , the land corridor will be put on the table for a transit agreement.

An Giang province has had relations with Champassak province since 2003 and Savannakhet province since 2007.

The three provinces have regularly exchanged their experiences in agriculture and fisheries. Recently, An Giang provided 10 tonnes of top quality rice varieties to Champassak province.
