Continued efforts to evacuate Vietnamese workers from Libya back to Vietnam

MOFA 1/3/2011 - According to Vietnam Embassy in Egypt, on March 1st morning (local time), the first Vietnam Airlines flight arrived in Cairo, Egypt to evacuate Vietnamese workers home. The aircraft also carried 8 tons of food and medicine to Vietnamese workers in Libya and neighboring countries.

Shortly after arriving in Cairo aboard the flight, the inter-agency delegation, headed by Foreign Deputy Minister Doan Xuan Hung, directed the working teams in Egypt and Malta to coordinate with Vietnamese diplomatic missions in assisting Vietnamese workers in transit in these countries.

The Istanbul-based inter-agency working team has received more than 1,000 Vietnamese workers and has been working closely with the Vietnam Embassy in Turkey and local authorities to finish necessary procedures and documents to bring these workers back to Vietnam as soon as possible.

As of March 1, over 6,000 Vietnamese workers have been evacuated from Libya to third countries. With the support of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Ministry of Labour, Invalids and Social Affairs, related ministries and agencies, foreign representative missions in Vietnam and labour export companies, more than 1,200 Vietnamese workers have been on the way home, among which over 1,000 have been back to Vietnam. It is expected that by early March 2nd morning (Hanoi time), more than 300 workers will have arrived in Vietnam on Vietnam Airlines aircraft./.
