Vietnam’s August Revolution marked

VNA 19/08/2011 - Major dailies in Vietnam in Aug. 19 ran editorials highlighting the great significance of the August Revolution victory, which led to the establishment of the Democratic Republic of Vietnam, the first State of workers and peasants in Southeast Asia , 66 years ago.

The Nhan dan (People) and Quan doi Nhan dan (People’s Army) newspapers asserted, “The August Revolution in 1945 is the greatest revolution in history of the Vietnamese nation as it put an end to colonialism and feudalism in the country.”

The great victory of the August Revolution manifested the victory of the great national unity bloc under the clear-sighted leadership of the Party and President Ho Chi Minh, the dailies noted.

On the occasion, the capital city’s Hanoi Moi newspaper carried articles looking back on memories of those who participated directly in the August Revolution.

The celebration of the victory was highlighted by a host of artistic performances, cultural exchanges and exhibitions nationwide.

A sand painting exhibition featuring General Vo Nguyen Giap, who is the first Commander-in-Chief of the Vietnam People’s Army, opened at the Presidential Palace relic in Hanoi on Aug. 18.

Mobile film screenings and photo exhibitions were held in rural and border areas of the Mekong delta province of An Giang . The events spotlighted heroes and the glorious struggles of the Vietnamese people, as well as depicted the national reconstruction and the movement to study and follow President Ho Chi Minh’s moral example.

Memorial steles were built the Tu Ly-Hien Luong revolutionary base in Da Bac district, which served as one of four important revolutionary bases of Hoa Binh province during the pre-August Revolution time.

The Central Highlands province of Gia Lai Museum launched a photo exhibition to recall how the Vietnamese Government was established and its development over the past 66 years./.
