At 4:00 pm on August 27 (Viet Nam’s time), the Foreign Ministry received a report from the Vietnamese Embassy in Libya, which stated that a group of armed men forced their way into the embassy and took away a number of assets.

The Vietnamese Foreign Ministry and competent agencies immediately convened an urgent meeting on the matter, under the Prime Minister’s instruction to make all-out efforts to ensure absolute safety for the diplomats.

Later the same day, the ministry was able to contact the Vietnamese Ambassador to Libya who affirmed that all Vietnamese diplomats are safe. He said robberies also happened at several other foreign embassies in Tripoli. About 60 foreign diplomatic offices still have their staff in Libya.

The Foreign Ministry has contacted Libya’s representative offices in Ha Noi and in the United Nations, as well as United Nations and NATO officials, to ask them to ensure safety for the lives and assets of the Vietnamese Embassy’s staff and headquarters in Tripoli./.
