Party General Secretary active in Cambodia

(VNA - 07/12/2011) - Party General Secretary Nguyen Phu Trong had a busy day in Phnom Penh on Dec. 6 as he offered flowers at monuments, called on Buddhist dignitaries and met with the Vietnamese community.

The General Secretary and his entourage offered flowers at the Independence Monument and the Vietnam-Cambodia Friendship Monument .

Also in the morning, the Party leader called on Supreme Patriarchs Tep Vong and Bukri at Unalom and Botum pagodas, respectively.

He thanked the Buddhist dignitaries for their feelings and flowery words on the land and people of Vietnam and the longlasting traditional relations between the two countries, as well as their prayers for the development of the two nations’ relations, for both peoples to live in peace, happiness and prosperity forever.

General Secretary Trong spoke highly of the role and important contributions of Buddhism in national construction and defence in each country, contributing to fostering solidarity, traditional friendship and comprehensive cooperation between the two nations.

Latter, General Secretary Trong met with staff of the Vietnamese Embassy and representatives of the Vietnamese community and businesses in Cambodia .

He took this opportunity to present 50,000 USD to the study encouragement fund for Vietnamese Cambodian children. He called on the community and Vietnamese firms in Cambodia to join hands in expanding and effectively using the fund.

Viettel Cambodia (Metfone) and the Bank for Investment and Development of Viet Nam in Cambodia each donated 50,000 USD to the fund.

He also visited Metfone, a Vietnamese company operating telecom services in Cambodia .

On this occasion, Cambodia ’s media including National Television (TVK) on Dec. 6 covered the news on General Secretary Trong’s visit to Cambodia .

Almost all major newspapers in Phnom Penh on Dec. 7 ran articles and photos on his visit./.
