Prime Minister starts Myanmar visit

(VNA - 19/12/2011) - Vietnamese Prime Minister Nguyen Tan Dung arrived in the ancient city of Mandalay in Myanmar on Dec. 19, starting his visit to the country at the invitation of President Thein Sein.

In his meeting with Mandalay region Governor Ye Myint, PM Dung expressed his pleasure to visit the region for the first time.

The Vietnamese PM stressed that Viet Nam always attaches importance to the traditional friendship between the two countries and thanked the Myanmar government and people for their support and assistance to Viet Nam in the fight for national independence in the past as well as the present national construction and development.

He spoke highly of the positive cooperation results between the two countries in the recent past, noting that more and more Vietnamese businesses have invested in Myanmar .

The positive cooperation will bring benefits for not only Vietnamese businesses but also contribute to the development of Mandalay in particular and the two countries’ relations in general.

In the spirit, PM Dung requested that the Governor instruct relevant agencies to create favourable conditions for Vietnamese businesses to do their business in Mandalay , especially in agricultural, industrial and mining projects.

Governor Ye Myint expressed his pleasure at the fine development of the Viet Nam-Myanmar relations.

He spoke highly of bilateral cooperation between the two countries in the recent past, especially in aviation and tourism, affirming that the Mandalay authorities will create favourable conditions for Vietnamese enterprises to promote cooperation with Mandalay in agriculture, mining, industry and tourism.

PM Dung is scheduled to attend the fourth Greater Mekong Sub-region Summit GMS 4 on Dec. 20./.
