Prime Minister Nguyen Tan Dung receives Chinese state councillor
PM Dung said Viet Nam attaches importance to the traditional friendship and cooperation between the two countries.
He stressed the two sides need to coordinate to implement agreements on measures to boost bilateral cooperation reached during the China visit by Party General Secretary Nguyen Phu Trong, particularly the agreement on fundamental principles guiding the settlement of issues on the sea, on the basis of respect for international law, the 1982 UN Convention on the Law of the Sea, the implementation of the Declaration on the Conduct of Parties in the East Sea (DOC) and working together towards the Code of Conduct (COC).
The two sides need to continue promoting the role of the steering committee for bilateral cooperation in realising common perceptions of the two countries’ senior leaders, including the implementation of the five-year development plan on Vietnam-China economic cooperation and trade (2012-2016) and increase of friendship exchanges and comprehensive cooperation between the two sides, the PM added.
The Chinese State Councillor affirmed that the Chinese senior leaders attach importance to the general situation of the Viet Nam-China friendly and cooperative ties, saying they are resolved to together with Vietnam discuss and solve issues on sea between the two countries, promoting a stable and healthy development of the two countries’ relations.
He said China wants to join ASEAN’s efforts to implement well the DOC and launch negotiations of the COC.
The two sides also agreed to make efforts to strictly and effectively implement their reached agreements, contributing to realising and deepening the Viet Nam-China comprehensive strategic cooperation partnership, contributing to peace, stability, friendship and cooperation in the region.
Dai is on a visit to Myanmar to attend the 4th GMS which is scheduled to kick off on Dec. 20 with the participation of leaders from six GMS countries, namely Cambodia, China, Laos, Myanmar, Thailand and Viet Nam./.
