Viet Nam hosts workshop on int’l covenant on civil, political rights

(VGP – 22/05/2012) - Viet Nam’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs and the United Nations Development Program (UNDP) jointly organized on May 22 the Workshop on the International Covenant on Civil and Political Rights.
 
Participants to the event include representatives of the ministries of foreign affairs, public security, justice, home affairs, labor-invalids-social affairs, information and communications, committee for ethnic minorities; UNDP and United Nations Commission on Human Rights.

Speaking at the workshop, Foreign Minister Assistant Ha Kim Ngoc affirmed Viet Nam’s consistent policy of guaranteeing the human rights for all citizens.

Viet Nam has gained a number of achievements in fulfilling Millennium Development Goals, the Human Development Index (HDI) and the Gender-related Development Index (GDI). All the achievements are widely recognized by the international community.

In the recent years, the Government has tighten State budget expenditure but it still prioritize State budget for for social welfare.

The workshop was a chance for participants to share information and experience in the implementation of this Convention in Viet Nam.
