Viet Nam, Indonesia beef up parliamentary cooperation

(VGP – 05/09/2012) - National Assembly Chairman Nguyen Sinh Hung reached an agreement to strengthen exchanges between Vietnamese and Indonesian law-making agencies with Speaker of Indonesia's House of Representatives Marzuki Alie during their talks on September 5 in Ha Noi.

At the talks, the two leaders said strengthening exchanges will help boost the friendly relations and comprehensive linkages between the two parliaments after briefing each other about the operation of their respective parliamentary branches.

They also agreed to speed up the realization of signed agreements and coordinate with each other at international and regional inter-parliamentary forums, especially the ASEAN Inter-Parliamentary Assembly (AIPA) and the Inter-Parliamentary Union (IPU) in the spirit of mutual support and harmonization.

Mr. Marzuki Alie, who is also AIPA President, said AIPA highly appreciated the role of Viet Nam, expressing hopes that as a dynamic economy with an increasingly rising status in the region and the world at large, Viet Nam would make positive contributions to the upcoming 33rd AIPA.

NA Chairman Hung hailed the role of Mr. Marzuki Alie in fulfilling AIPA’s goals during his term and Indonesia in carrying out ASEAN’s recent activities./.
