VN learns from Filipino anti-corruption experience

(VNA - 11/03/2013) - Prime Minister Nguyen Tan Dung told the Philippines’ Ombudsman Conchita Carpio Morales that Viet Nam hopes to learn from the anti-corruption experience of countries across the world, including the Philippines, during their meeting in Ha Noi on March 11.

Dung emphasised that the Party and State of Viet Nam pay much attention to the prevention and combat of corruption, a constant struggle that needs synchronous, drastic and long-term measures to increase the transparency of Government procedures and uphold the punishment of offences, he said.

As a neighbour of the Philippines that shares ASEAN membership, Viet Nam attaches much importance to nurturing multi-faceted cooperation with the Philippines for mutual interest and the development of both countries, said the PM.

Applauding the cooperation between the two inspectorates, Dung affirmed his support for the Philippines’ Office of Ombudsman and the Government Inspectorate of Viet Nam, and their effective implementation of agreements reached during Morales’ visit.

Morales briefed Dung on the results of her talks with her Vietnamese counterpart, Inspector General Huynh Phong Tranh. She described the newly-signed memorandum of understanding on cooperation between the two sides as a firm foundation for friendly cooperation between the two agencies.

The Filipino ombudsman asserted that her agency wants to further boost cooperation with the Government Inspectorate of Vietnam and is willing to work with the Vietnamese side, so that the two parties can study each other’s experience in the fight against corruption.
