DPT leader vows stronger ties with Viet Nam

Chairman of the Democratic Party of Thailand (DPT) Abhisit Vejjajiva has vowed to further relations with the Communist Party of Viet Nam (CPV) and foster people-to-people exchanges in the coming time.

Vejjajiva, who is also former Thai Prime Minister, made the pledge during his courtesy call to visiting CPV General Secretary Nguyen Phu Trong in Bangkok on June 26.
Party leader Trong reviewed the relations between the CPV and the DPT over the past decades. He noted that the first Thai Prime Minister to visit Viet Nam was Prime Minister and DPT Chairman Chuan Leek-pai in March, 1993. In October the same year, CPV General Secretary Do Muoi became the first CPV General Secretary to visit Thailand. These events opened a new chapter in relations between the two nations and parties, General Secretary Trong said.
He expressed his belief that with its important position in the political arena and the legislature in Thailand, the DPT will continue to back the development of the two nations’ relations in all realms, especially in economic cooperation.
The Vietnamese Party leader suggested the two parties continue enhancing exchanges, sharing experience and working closely at multilateral and political forums to which they are members.
He also invited the DPT Chairman to visit Viet Nam again.
At a reception the same day for Chairman of the Thailand-Viet Nam Friendship Association (TVFA) Prachuap Chaiyasan, General Secretary Trong thanked the TVFA leaders for their support for overseas Vietnamese living and working in the country.
He asked the TVFA to continue working closely with the Viet Nam-Thailand Friendship Association to strengthen friendship and multifaceted cooperation between the two nations.
