Viet Nam, Indonesia aim for 10 billion USD in two-way trade

Prime Minister Nguyen Tan Dung has suggested that Viet Nam and Indonesia create further incentives allowing businesses from both sides contribute to a targeted 10 billion USD in two-way trade in the coming time.

Meeting Indonesian Speaker of People’s Consultative Assembly Sidarto Danusubroto in Hanoi on March 4, the PM said the two sides should bolster cooperation in potential areas such as trade, investment and tourism.

Expressing his delight at the development of the bilateral strategic partnership, he said he hopes the two sides will exert more effort to realise the signed agreements for mutual growth.

Viet Nam and Indonesia should also promote their cooperation in science and technology, culture, education, security and defence, while increasing people-to-people exchanges, he said.

PM Dung proposed that the two sides continue their close coordination at regional and international forums, especially the United Nations, while working together to make more contributions to the development of ASEAN, of which they both hold membership.

On East Sea issues, he highly valued Indonesia six-point initiative on the matter.

He said he hopes all involving parties will implement the Declaration on the Conduct of Parties in the East Sea (DOC) in a strict manner, leading to the introduction of a Code of Conduct in the East Sea (COC) for peace, stability, cooperation and development in the region.

For his part, Danusubroto agreed and added that all issues must be settled through peaceful methods and dialogue to foster stability.

He underscored that Viet Nam and Indonesia have shared a long-standing traditional friendship which has been nurtured by generations of the two countries’ leaders.

The outcomes of bilateral cooperation over the past years have practically benefited the development of both countries, he noted, opining that the two sides should continue working to enhance cooperation in all fields, while sharing with each other their experience in their socio-economic development.

Earlier on March 3, the Indonesian official also held talks with Chairman of the National Assembly Nguyen Sinh Hung.-VNA
