VN is committed to promoting human rights

(VGP – 30/03/20140 - Viet Nam has actively contributed to the discussions and adoption of resolutions on promoting human rights at the 25th session of the UN Human Rights Council in Geneva, Switzerland from March 3-28.

From March 27-28, the UN Human Rights Council approved more than 30 important resolutions and decisions of international concern such as exercising the rights to economic, cultural and social affairs, boosting international cooperation on human rights, protecting human rights in the fight against terrorism, protecting privacy in the era of digital technology, the freedom of speech, religion and belief, anti-violence against children and the right of vulnerable groups such disadvantaged and disabled people and racial discrimination.

Viet Nam delivered 20 speeches at the session reflecting its viewpoint and that of ASEAN in its official capacity as the ASEAN Coordinator of 2014.

During the month-long meeting, Viet Nam closely worked with the Council’s members to promote dialogues to eliminate biased approaches. Vietnam also co-sponsored the draft resolutions on economic, cultural and social rights, children’s rights to legal approaches, anti-violence against children and the rights to culture and cultural diversity. 

The next session of the UN Human Rights Council is slated for June this year./.
