After straightforward and open talks with UN members, during which Viet Nam provided full information on its legal, political and human rights situation, the country received 227 recommendations.
As an active and responsible member of the international community, Viet Nam has fulfilled all the obligations under the UPR mechanism, said Hoang Chi Trung, head of the Department of International Organisations at the Foreign Ministry.
He said the preparations for the UPR report in the second cycle saw the engagement of all relevant ministries and sectors, as well as the participation of concerned socio-political organisations and individuals.
Pratibha Mehta, UN Coordinator in Viet Nam, pledged support for Viet Nam ’s efforts in ensuring, protecting and promoting human rights.
The UN is ready to create all possible conditions for Viet Nam to organise regular dialogues to discuss the plan to conduct UPR in the country, she said.
Viet Nam presented its UPR report at the 18th Session of the UN Human Rights Council UPR working group on February 5 in Geneva, Switzerland .
At the conference, consultative recommendations were collected. They will be used when the Foreign Ministry submits its own report to the government.
The recommendations are scheduled to be presented at the 26th session of the UN Human Rights Council this June.-VNA
