President Truong Tan Sang arrives in Beijing for APEC economic leaders’ meeting

(VNA) - President Truong Tan Sang arrived in Beijing, China on November 9 for the 22nd Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation (APEC) Economic Leaders’ Meeting at the invitation of his Chinese counterpart Xi Jinping.

His attendance on November 9-10 is to demonstrate the country’s policy of continuously integrating into the world and pursuing a higher degree of multilateral diplomacy, contributing to APEC’s common concerns and key points of its agenda.

The President is due to meet bilaterally with leaders of APEC member economies and executives of leading businesses around the world.

Under the banner of “Shaping the future through the Asia-Pacific Partnership”, the meeting will focus on issues related to connectivity, the birth of a regional free trade area, and emerging concerns in economic and trade collaboration.

As many as 15 documents are expected to be approved, including a statement of senior officials and a joint statement of the ministerial meeting.

The 21-member organisation comprises 12 economies currently negotiating the Trans-Pacific Partnership agreement, including Australia, Brunei, Canada, Chile, Japan, Malaysia, Mexico, New Zealand, Peru, Singapore, the United States and Vietnam, along with China, Hong Kong (China), Indonesia, the Republic of Korea, Papua New Guinea, the Philippines, Russia, Taiwan (China) and Thailand.
