DPM Minh receives US Assistant Secretary of State

The Deputy PM confirmed that Viet Nam expects to promote Viet Nam-US comprehensive partnership, lauding achievements after becoming comprehensive partnership over the past year, citing the signing of the U.S.-Viet Nam Civil Nuclear Cooperation Agreement.
Deputy PM Minh suggested the two sides exchange delegations at all levels and accelerate economic, trade and investment cooperation by limiting trade barriers, recognizing Viet Nam as a market economy and completing the Trans-Pacific Partnership Agreement negotiation round.
Mr. Daniel Russel conveyed greetings of Secretary of State John Kerry to Deputy PM, FM Pham Binh Minh and hoped to welcome the Deputy PM to the US.
He re-affirmed the comprehensive partnership with Viet Nam as one of crucial part of President Obama's strategy to strengthen cooperation with other nations in Asia Pacific, expecting that Viet Nam will soon join the Proliferation Security Initiative (PSI)
The guest suggested two nations enhance cooperation at intentional forums such as The United Nations Human Rights Council, the ASEAN Regional Forum and the East Asia Summit.
Regarding the East Sea issue, Mr Daniel Russel referred to the announcement of U.S. State Department spokeswoman Jen Psaki about the drilling rig HD-981. The US opposes activities affecting the freedom, security and safety at sea as well as acts of using or threatening to use force.
The US calls on relevant sides to restrain and deal with problems through diplomatic measures on the basis of international law.
Earlier, on May 7, Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs Ho Xuan Son and Daniel Russel co-chaired the 4th dialogue on Asia-Pacific. They talked about bilateral issues and regional and international issues of mutual concern./.
