General Secretary Nong Duc Manh wraps up Cambodia visit

Ha Noi (VNA) - Party General Secretary Nong Duc Manh returned to Ha Noi on Mar. 30, concluding his official visit to Cambodia.

 

On the way to Viet Nam from Siem Reap province, General Secretary Manh cabled a message of thanks to King Norodom Sihamoni.

 

The message said: "Leaving ancient Siem Reap city, the cradle of the grand Angkor civilisation, having successfully concluded the friendly official visit to the Kingdom of Cambodia, the Vietnamese high-level delegation and I myself sincerely thank King Norodom Sihamoni,  former King Norodom Sihanouk and Queen Mother Monique Sihanouk, and other leaders of Cambodia for their warm sentiments, hospitality, friendship and solidarity during the historical visit."

 

The Party and State leaders of Viet Nam believe that thanks to the common determination to implement the Viet Nam-Cambodia joint declaration issued on Mar. 30 and the two countries' aspirations, the traditional friendship and comprehensive cooperation between the two countries would certainly reach a new height.

 

 * Vietnamese Deputy Prime Minister Vu Khoan and Cambodian Deputy Prime Minister Sok An met in Phnom Penh on Mar. 29, within the framework of the official visit to Cambodia by General Secretary Nong Duc Manh.

 

The two sides discussed issues of cooperation in infrastructure construction, trade, healthcare and personnel training in order to accelerate the implementation of bilateral cooperation agreements between the two countries.

 

Deputy PM Khoan said Viet Nam is expeditiously carrying out agreements signed between the two countries. He asked the Cambodian side to give Viet Nam technical assistance in importing machines and equipment, and granting visas to Vietnamese workers to ensure the tempo of building and upgrading some highways in Cambodia with Viet Nam's assistance.

 

He said that Viet Nam has boosted commercial cooperation with Cambodia and will continue to expand it. The two sides should study and coordinate in establishing commercial and industrial parks in their common border areas with the aim of bringing bilateral trade turnover to 1 billion USD in the coming years. Viet Nam will continue to cooperate with and help Cambodia in personnel training.

 

Deputy PM Sok An, who is also Minister in charge of the Council of Ministers' Office, highly welcomed the Cambodia visit by Vietnamese General Secretary Nong Duc Manh, describing it as a foundation for further enhancing the  friendship, solidarity and cooperation in many fields between the two countries.

 

Sok An said Cambodia will do its best to facilitate the implementation of bilateral agreements.-Enditem two nations' prosperity and for peace, stability, cooperation and development in the region and the world, Manh stressed.

 

He wished the Cambodian people under the reign of King Norodom Sihamoni and the leadership of the Royal Government success in building a peaceful, independent, neutral and prosperous Cambodia.

 

On Mar. 29 and Mar. 30, General Secretary Manh had visited Siem Riep province, where he was feted by Honorary President of the Cambodian People's Party Samdech Heng Samrin and other Cambodian high-ranking officials.
