Vietnamese flag raised in Australian city

The Vietnamese flag was hoisted at the headquarters of Parramatta City Council in Sydney, Australia, on August 30 to mark 63 years of Vietnam’s National Day, 35 years of diplomacy between Vietnam and Australia and 15 years of the sisterhood between Parramatta City and Vung Tau City.

Vietnamese Consul General Vu Hong Nam said that the cooperative relations between the two countries and the two sister cities have developed well in recent times.

According to the Consul General, currently many Australian businesses such as ANZ bank, Qantas Airlines, Gloria Jean’s Coffee and RMIT University, are operating efficiently in Vietnam. Meanwhile, approximately 250,000 Vietnamese nationals are residing and working in Australia. Notably, 10,000 Vietnamese students are studying and completing their thesis in Australia. They serve as a bridge between the two countries, said Mr Nam.

Parramatta Lord Mayor Paul Barber affirmed that both Vietnam and Australia have worked hard for peace, prosperity and development in each country and the region. He expressed his admiration for the achievements made by Vietnam and Vung Tau city over the past years.

He acknowledged the Vietnamese community’s contributions to the city and expressed his belief that relations between the two countries and the two sister cities will further develop.

The ceremony was wrapped up with a special art performance delivered by Vietnamese students in Australia. (VOV)
