Vietnam, Canada celebrate 35 years of diplomatic ties

The Vietnamese Embassy in Canada gave a banquet in Ottawa on August 28 to mark Vietnam’s 63rd National Day and the two countries’ 35th anniversary of diplomatic ties (1973-2008).

The ceremony was attended by Canadian Deputy Foreign Minister Lenn Edwards, President of the Canada-Vietnam Parliamentary Friendship Association Bryon Wilfert and Vietnamese people living and studying in Canada.

Addressing the event, Vietnamese Ambassador Nguyen Duc Hung highlighted Vietnam’s major achievements during its renewal process and international integration.

He said that Vietnam-Canada relationship has seen fine developments over the past 35 years, and two-way trade exceeded 1 billion CAD in 2007. Canada is now the fifth largest among 82 countries and territories investing in Vietnam, with a total investment of 6.2 billion CAD.

Mr Hung added that bilateral cooperation and mutual understanding has also been boosted by the exchange of high-ranking delegations. (VOV)
