Cuba wants to expand ties with Vietnam

Cuban Vice President Carlos Lage has affirmed that his country is determined to further strengthen its comprehensive cooperative relations with Vietnam.

While receiving Vietnamese Minister of Industry and Trade Vu Huy Hoang in Havana on August 28, Vice President Carlos Lage praised the traditional friendship and solidarity between the Cuban and Vietnamese people. He thanked Vietnam for its valuable support for and assistance to Cuba during its difficult times.

After congratulating Cuba’s important achievements, Mr Hoang informed his host of the outcome of his ongoing visit, and expressed his wish to promote bilateral trade ties in line with the two countries’ potential.

On the same day, Minister Hoang worked with Cuba’s Minister of Light Industry Jose Hernandez, Minister of Foreign Trade Raul de la Nunez and Minister of Domestic Trade Marino Murillo. Both sides expressed their desire to boost industrial cooperation and increase two-way trade that stood at just US$134.8 million in the first five months of this year.
In addition to rice and coal, Vietnam has exported computers, electric fans, compact lamps, footwear, garments, manual mechanical tools and processed medicinal products to the central American country.(VOVNews/VNA)
