(MOFA) - In the morning of March 1st 2017, when the 14-day duration of temporary custody was over, the suspects in the murder of Korean national Kim Chol, including Vietnamese national Doan Thi Huong, were taken to the Magistrate Court of Sepang, Selangor State, Malaysia to hear the indictments by prosecutors. Representatives of the Embassy of Vietnam in Malaysia were present at the court to protect the legitimate rights of Doan Thi Huong.
On March 2nd 2017, representatives of the Consular Department of the Foreign Ministry of Vietnam had a meeting with Huong’s family, where they gave the family information relating to the case proceedings as well as advise for Huong’s legal support in accordance with the Malaysian laws and international practice. Earlier, the Consular Department had informed the family of the consular visit and her health condition.
The Embassy of Vietnam in Malaysia, within its mandate and jurisdiction, will make continued measures for citizen protection, including support to find lawyer for Huong in line with Malaysia’s law and regulations, in order to ensure the case proceeds in fair and objective manner without any discrimination for the exercise of legitimate rights of Vietnamese citizen.
