Vietnam endorses the themes and priorities of the 12th APEC

ANSWER TO CORRESPONDENT BY MR. LE DZUNG, THE SPOKESMAN

OF THE VIETNAMESE MINISTRY OF FOREIGN AFFAIRS ON 27th AUGUST 2004

AFP: Please advise
Vietnam’s position on the coming APEC Conference in Chile?

Answer:

Asia-Pacific occupies an important position in
Vietnam's foreign policy. APEC member economies are our major economic, trading and investment partners as well as our biggest ODA supply.

So far,
Vietnam has been proactively participating in the international economic integration process in general and in APEC activities in particular. This can be seen in Vietnam’s continued commitments made in the annual Individual Action Plan (IAP) and its deeper engagement in several areas of the Collective Action Plan (CAP) so as to ensure the accomplishment of the Bogor Goals of free and open trade and investment in Asia-Pacific by 2010 for industrialised economies and 2020 for developing economies.

At the APEC Economic Leaders Summit to be held in
Santiago, Chile (20th-21st November, 2004), Vietnam will demonstrate its sustained determination to pursue a policy of robust integration into the world economy through its active participation during the Summit.

Vietnam endorses the themes and priorities of the 12th APEC Economic Leaders Summit set forth by Chile as the host country.

Vietnam holds that to fulfill the Bogor Goals as scheduled, APEC should further promote cooperation in the fields of trade and investment liberalization and facilitation and economic-technical cooperation. At the same time, APEC should introduce practical reform programs in order to enhance the Forum's performance.
