All aspects of life in the Central Highlands remain normal

ANSWER TO CORRESPONDENTS BY MR. LE DZUNG, THE SPOKESMAN
OF
VIETNAM’S MINISTRY OF FOREIGN AFFAIRS ON 14th APRIL 2004

Many correspondents:  ask for comments on reports of Human Rights Watch and Montagnard Foundaton on recent situation in the Central Highland?

Answer:

This is not the first time Human Rights Watch and Montagnard Foundation produced such ill-willed fabrication and exaggeration. We therefore categorically reject this wrongful information.

I would like to repeat that all aspects of life in the Central Highlands remain normal.

The
Vietnamese State’s consistent policy is to consolidate the great national unity and always improve material and spiritual life of all all strata of people with special care given to those living in mountainous and remote areas, including the Central Highland provinces.

Vietnamese laws guarantee the right to freedoms of religions and beliefs and freedoms of non-religions or beliefs.  This is inscribed in the Constitution and respected in reality. The so-called “persecution of Montagnard protestants” is absolutely non-existent. An evident illustration is the inauguaration of the Pay Ro Ngol A Ma Ron Protestant Association on
April 13, 2004 in A Ma Ron commune, Ia Pa district, Gia Lai province. So far, there have been 11 Protestant Associations in Gia Lai province.

Regarding other specific questions raised by the correspondents, we will forward them to the localities and inform you in due course.
