The US affirms not to support any organizations or individual to carry out activities to overthrow the Vietnamese government

ANSWER TO CORRESPONDENT BY MR. LE DZUNG, THE SPOKESMAN
OF
VIETNAM’S MINISTRY OF FOREIGN AFFAIRS ON 29th APRIL 2004

AFP: Vietnam claims that foreign forces interfere in the situation in the Central Highlands and bear responsibility on this issue. Will Vietnam name the US Administration in this claim?

Answer:

Given a series of incidents occurring over the past years in some localities of the Central Highlands, it is evident that hostile forces against Vietnam based abroad, notably the Montagnard Foundation led by Ksor Kok, have instructed and collaborated with local extremist elements to instigate and incite some ethnic minority people to cause disturbances, beat on-duty officers and demand to establish an independent “Dega state” in an attempt to destabilize the Central Highlands.

The US-Vietnam relationship is built between two sovereign states on the basis of respect for independence, sovereignty, territorial integrity and non-interference into each other’s internal affairs. At our meetings, the
US has officially affirmed not to support or recognize a separate Dega state or assist any organizations or individual to carry out activities to overthrow the Vietnamese government.
