ANSWER TO CORRESPONDENTS BY MR. LE DZUNG, THE SPOKESMAN
OF THE VIETNAMESE MINISTRY OF FOREIGN AFFAIRS ON 27th MAY 2004
AFP: Please advise Vietnam's reaction to the annual report of Amnesty International which denounced Vietnam's violation of the rights to freedom of speech and freedom of associations, arrest and imprisonment of dissidents.
Answer:
We reject biased remarks about Vietnam in the annual report of Amnesty International.
It should be confirmed that in Vietnam fundamental rights of citizens including the rights to freedom of speech, freedom of press, freedom of assembly and religious freedom are clearly enshrined in the Constitution and respected in practice.
In Vietnam, no one is arrested on the grounds of political opinion or religion, only those who violate the law will be punished according to the law’s regulations.
