Vietnam requests the US to make a correct decision in line with the principles in the bilateral relations
ANSWER TO CORRESPONDENT BY MR. LE DZUNG, THE SPOKESMAN
OF THE VIETNAMESE MINISTRY OF FOREIGN AFFAIRS ON 23rd DECEMBER 2004
Thanh nien: Please advise Vietnam's reaction to the US State Department's 90-day extension before the application of provisions against countries, including Vietnam, in the list of "Countries of Particular Concern"?
Answer:
Vietnam's point of view on the issue has been clearly stated. A large number of representatives of various religions in Vietnam have also strongly voiced their protest against this wrongful decision and requested the US State Department to remove Vietnam from the list of "Countries of Particular Concern" on religious freedom.
The State of Vietnam guarantees the rights to freedom of beliefs and religion and freedom of non-religion or belief of citizens. This is enshrined in the Constitution and specified in other legal documents, particularly in the Ordinance on Beliefs and Religions. The Ordinance has proclaimed a system of fundamental rights and obligations of citizens in terms of freedom of beliefs and religion.
Vietnam requests the US to make a correct decision in line with the principles in the bilateral relations in the spirit of mutual understanding and respect and not to harm the broad interests of the two countries.
