Regular Press briefing on October 27th 2005


At the regular press briefing on October 27th 2005 of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Mr. Le Dung, Spokesman of the Ministry informed of the following diplomatic activities:

1- Prime Minister Phan Van Khai will head a Vietnamese delegation to the Second Ayeyawady-Chao Phraya-Mekong Economic Cooperation Strategy Summit to be held in Bangkok from 1st -3rd November, 2005.

The ACMECS Summit will focus on 4 issues: discuss and agree on ACMECS cooperation directions; adopt the Summit Declaration (Chao Phraya Declaration); discuss the organization of the 3rd ACMECS Summit; hold dialogue with ACMECS business representatives.

2- At the invitation of General Secretary Nong Duc Manh and State President Tran Duc Luong, General Secretary, State President of the People's Republic of China Hu Jin Tao will pay an official visit to Vietnam from October 31st to November 2nd 2005. This is the 3rd visit to Vietnam by H.E Hu Jin Tao and the 1st one as the General Secretary and the State President.

The visit is aimed at continuing the tradition of high-level meetings, reaffirming the continued development of bilateral relations along the line "friendly neighborliness, comprehensive cooperation, long-lasting stability, looking forward to the future", discussing major orientations to strengthen and broaden cooperation in all fields, particularly economic and trade cooperation, accelerating the implementation of cooperation Agreements between the two countries, discussing regional and international issues of mutual concern.

Over the past time, Vietnam-China friendship and cooperation have been developing rapidly and profoundly in all fields, practically benefiting both sides. The continuation of bilateral high-level meetings is an important element contributing to strengthened mutual trust and understanding and establishing orientations for the development of all-sided bilateral relationship.

3. Deputy Prime Minister of Thailand visits Vietnam from 5 to 7 November 2005:

At the invitation of Deputy Prime Minister of Vietnam Vu Khoan, Deputy Prime Minister of Thailand Wissanu Krea-Ngam will pay an official visit to Vietnam from 5 to 7 November 2005. This is the first visit to Vietnam by Deputy Prime Minister Wissanu Krea-Ngam.

The visit is aimed at discussing bilateral cooperation, particularly in economics, trade and investment and exploring opportunities to promote bilateral economic cooperation.

4. Foreign Minister of the Philippines Alberto Romulo will visit Vietnam and attend the 4th Joint Committee for Bilateral Cooperation from 4 to 8 November 2005:

At the invitation of Minister of Foreign Affairs of Vietnam Nguyen Dy Nien, Foreign Minister of the Philippines Alberto Romulo will visit Vietnam and co-chair the 4th Joint Governmental Committee for Bilateral Cooperation.

The visit is aimed at promoting friendship and multi-faceted cooperation between Vietnam and the Philippines, reviewing the implementation of the MoA of the 3rd Joint Committee and discuss measures to promote cooperation in all fields, particularly economic, trade and investment cooperation.
