Vietnam has been closely cooperating with other countries and international organizations in carrying out strong and effective measures to extinguish avian flu in Vietnam

ANSWER TO CORRESPONDENTS BY MR. LE DZUNG, THE SPOKESMAN

OF THE VIETNAMESE MINISTRY OF FOREIGN AFFAIRS

ON 14th NOVEMBER 2005

Question from AFP: Please advise Vietnam's assessment of the reaction of the world community in the fight against avian flu epidemic?

Answer:

Recently, avian flu epidemic has taken place with so complicated development. It has no longer been confined to Asia, but spread to Europe, Latin America and other parts of the world.

Once avian flu epidemic breaks out in the entire world, it would entail great harm. Therefore, almost all countries regard the pandemic prevention not only as a national issue but also that of regional and world significance. Governments in many countries have been paying increasingly more attention to international cooperation and supporting Asian countries affected by the avian flu to help prevent the epidemic at its root. Recently, the US Administration has initiated the International Partnership on Avian and Pandemic Influenza (IPAPI). Numerous international conferences on measures to prevent and combat avian flu as well as increase cooperation among countries have been convened. Within the framework of multilateral forums such as APEC and ASEAN many conferences and seminars on the same issue have been and will be held.

Vietnam has been closely cooperating with other countries and international organizations in carrying out strong and effective measures to extinguish avian flu in Vietnam, thereby contributing to the prevention of avian flu epidemic in the world./.
