Question: Please confirm varied news reports that during recent foreign trips, Vietnamese leaders suggested that Vietnam wishes to participate in the UN Peacekeeping Force in the coming time?

Answer:

As a proactive member of the international community, Vietnam has been actively participating in and making many contributions to UN activities. Vietnam will join hand in sharing UN responsibilities in keeping international peace and security

To make further contributions to UN common activities, Vietnam has decided to run for non-permanent membership of the Security Council for the 2008-2009 term and is preparing so that when sufficient conditions warrant, Vietnam will participate in UN peacekeeping operations./.
