Question: What assistance will the Vietnamese Government offer Vietnamese students studying in Yogyakarta city, which is adjacent to the earthquake-stricken area?
Answer: With great concern, we closely follow the news about the 27th May 2000 earthquake that has caused severe human and property losses to the population of Special Region of Yogyakarta, Indonesia. The Vietnamese Government and people would like to express deep condolence and sympathy to the Indonesian Government and the people in the earthquake- affected area.
Regarding Vietnamese students who are studying in Yogyakarta city, near the earthquake area, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Vietnam has instructed the Vietnamese Embassy in Indonesia to actively co-ordinate with Indonesian relevant agencies, taking preparatory measures to evacuate Vietnamese citizens, if needed, to safe areas.
We believe that under the leadership of the Indonesian Government, together with effective assistance from the international community, the people in the affected area will soon recover from the damages by the earthquake and stabilize their lives./.
