THE SPOKESMAN OF MINISTRY OF FOREIGN AFFAIRS LE DZUNG

ANSWER QUESTION ON 22 JULY 2006

Question: Please provide information on the status of Vietnamese sailors on an oil vessel running aground on the Indian coast.

Answer:

On 15th July 2006, Taiwanese Oil Vessel Isabel III ran aground on India’s  Suhaili coral island . Among the 33 sailors on board,  three were Vietnamese. The Indian coastguard rescue force promptly found and brought all the sailors to safety. The Vietnamese Embassy in India and the Vietnamese General Consulate in  Mumbai directly contacted  the Indian coastguard rescue force and identified the three Vietnamese sailors. They are Phan Cong Duc (DOB: 10 February 1982, Passport No. A1006054A), Nguyen Van Cuu (DOB: 22 March 1980, Passport No. A1049807A), and Nguyen Minh De (DOB: 10 June 1980, Passport No. A 0885916A). The Vietnamese sailors are safe, in  good health and well treated on Kavaratti Island, India. The Vietnamese representative offices in India are closely coordinating with relevant Indian agencies in taking appropriate measures to help the Vietnamese citizens.
