Law-enforcement agencies in Russia should promptly investigate the case in order to identify the culprits who murdered Vu Anh Tuan

THE SPOKESMAN OF MINISTRY OF FOREIGN AFFAIRS LE DZUNG

ANSWERS QUESTION ON 19 OCTOBER 2006

Question : Please provide Vietnam's reaction to  the decision of the Saint Petersburg Court's Jury  concerning the case of murdering Vietnamese student Vu Anh Tuan?

Answer:

We find it very regretful that the culprits who murdered Vietnamese student Vu Anh Tuan have not been identified or severely punished. The barbarous murdering of student Vu Anh Tuan on October 13, 2004 in Saint Petersburg is an extremely serious crime, arousing emotion in the public in both Vietnam and the Federation of Russia and running counter to the fine traditional relations between the peoples of Vietnam and Russia.

In our opinion, the case should be subjected to thorough investigation and serious trial, the culprits should be strictly punished in accordance with Russian laws and the wish of the broad public opinion.

The Vietnamese Ministry of Foreign Affairs has sent a Note to the Embassy of the Russian Federation in Hanoi requesting law-enforcement agencies in Saint Petersburg in particular and in the entire Russia in general to promptly investigate the case in order to identify the murderer.

Besides, Vietnam requests Russian competent agencies to take urgent and effective measures to ensure the safety of the Vietnamese community in Russia in general and the Vietnamese students there in particular.
