Regular Press Briefing by MOFA’s Spokesman on 23 August 2007
At the MOFA’s regular press briefing, Mr. Le Dung, Spokesman of the MOFA informed the participants of the following diplomatic activities:
1. President Nguyen Minh Triet to attend the 15th APEC Economic Leaders Meeting from 6 to 9 September 2007:
At the invitation of Australia’s Prime Minister John Howard, Vietnam’s President Nguyen Minh Triet will attend the 15th APEC Economic Leaders Meeting (AELM) in Sydney, Australia from 6 to 9 September 2007.
The theme for AELM 15 and APEC Australia 2007 is “Strengthening our community, building a sustainable future”. The meeting will focus on six important issues:
1. Climate Change and clean development
2. APEC support to multilateral trading system and WTO
3. Regional Economic Integration including studies to set up Asia- Pacific Free Trade Area.
4. Human security
5. APEC reform
6. Member admission.
Beside traditional trade economic content, APEC will discuss other issues such as anti-terrorism, anti-corruption, health care and tourism…
2. President Nguyen Minh Triet to visit New Zealand:
At the invitation of New Zealand’s Governor-General Anand Satyanand and Prime Minister Helen Clark, President Nguyen Minh Triet will pay a State visit to New Zealand from 10- 12 September 2007. This is the first visit to New Zealand by a Vietnamese President since the establishment of the two countries’ diplomatic relations on 19 June 1975.
The visit aims to enhance the relations among leaders of Vietnam and New Zealand, affirm Vietnam’s foreign policy of attaching importance to and wishing for strengthening and developing the friendship and multi-faceted relations with New Zealand and discuss regional and international issues of common concern.
3. Prime Minister Nguyen Tan Dung to attend the 50th Anniversary of Independence of Malaysia from 30 August to 1 September 2007:
At the invitation of Malaysia’s Prime Minister Abdullah Admad Badawi, Prime Minister Nguyen Tan Dung will attend the 50th Anniversary of Independence of Malaysia in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia from 30 August to 1 September 2007.
The visit aims to enhance the friendship and multi-faceted relations between Vietnam and Malaysia, strengthening relations among Vietnamese and Malaysian leaders.
During his visit to Malaysia, PM Nguyen Tan Dung will attend the Military Parade at Merdeka Square on 31 August, the 50th Anniversary of Independence of Malaysia in the evening of the same day.
4. Foreign Minister of Dominican Republic Carlos Morales Troncoso to visit Vietnam from 28 August to 2 September 2007:
At the invitation of Deputy Prime Minister, Minister for Foreign Affairs of Vietnam Pham Gia Khiem, Foreign Minister of the Dominican Republic Carlos Morales Troncoso will pay a visit to Vietnam from 28 August to 2 September 2007. This is the first visit to Vietnam by a Foreign Minister of the Dominican Republic since the two countries established diplomatic relations in July 2005.
The visit aims to enhance the friendship and cooperation relations between Vietnam and the Dominican Republic.
