The report of Human Rights Watch is biased and does not reflect the real situation in Viet Nam.

MINISTRY OF FOREIGN AFFAIRS' SPOKESMAN MR. LE DZUNG
ANSWERS QUESTION ON 04 MAY 2009

Responding to foreign correspondent’s questions on the May 4th Report of Human Rights Watch on the human rights situation in Viet Nam, the Spokesman of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs Le Dung said on the same day:

The Human Rights Watch often provides false information about Viet Nam. Its report dated May 4th 2009 is biased and does not reflect the real situation in Viet Nam.

The Vietnamese State views the people as both the objective and driving force of any social and economic development policy and it is our consistent policy to protect and promote human rights. The Constitution of Viet Nam guarantees that all citizens enjoy equal political, economic, cultural and social rights as well as the rights to complaints and petition, the rights to employment, education and healthcare, etc. regardless of gender, race and religion. The State of Viet Nam has made every effort to build and improve its institutions to guarantee human rights in practice.

In the past years, Viet Nam has recorded enormous achievements in guaranteeing human rights, which is an important factor to the success of the reform in Viet Nam.
