Remarks by Foreign Ministry Spokesman Luong Thanh Nghi on April 17, 2013

In response to the media query about the 17th session of the Viet Nam - US Human Rights Dialogue, Foreign Ministry Spokesman Luong Thanh Nghi on April 17, 2013 said:

The 17th session of the Viet Nam - US Human Rights Dialogue took place on April 12, 2013 in Ha Noi.

During this session, the two sides frankly exchanged information on issues of common concern, including those concerning law-governed state, freedom of speech, religious freedom, the disability and LGBT rights, the implementation of the Universal Periodic Review (UPR) mechanism, and the implementation and protection of human rights in Viet Nam and the US. Viet Nam also informed and shed lights on allegations that incorrectly reflect the reality in Viet Nam.

While in Viet Nam, Deputy Assistant Secretary Daniel Baer and his delegation were facilitated to meet with a number of people of the U.S. concern.

It’s our belief that open, constructive and regular dialogues on basis of equality and mutual respect between Viet Nam and the US on various issues, including human rights will contribute to strengthening mutual understanding and boosting cooperation for the benefits of the two people.”
