President Truong Tan Sang to attend the 21st APEC (Oct. 7 – 8)

At the invitation of Indonesian President Susilo Bambang Yudhoyono, President Truong Tan Sang will attend the 21st APEC Economic Leaders’ Meeting in Bali, Indonesia from October 7 to 8, 2013.

The theme for APEC 21 is “Resilient Asia-Pacific, Engine of Global Growth”.

President Truong Tan Sang and leaders of other APEC member economies will exchange views on the current global economic landscape and the role of APEC in promoting multilateral trade, APEC’s vision in connectivity within the context of an evolving regional and international architectures, sustainable and inclusive growth, and challenges on food, water resources and energy security.

Besides the Plenary Session and retreats, President Truong Tan Sang will also participate in the Dialogue with the APEC Business Advisory Council, attend the TPP high-level meeting and have bilateral talks with leaders of other APEC member economies.

The Vietnamese delegation will also take part in other APEC meetings such as: 25th APEC Senior Officials’ Meeting (Oct. 1 – 2), 4th APEC Business Advisory Council meeting (Oct. 2 – 6), APEC CEO Summit (Oct. 5 – 7) and the 25th APEC Ministerial Meeting (Oct. 7).

Prime Minister Nguyen Tan Dung to attend the 23rd ASEAN Summit (Oct. 9 – 10)

At the invitation of Sultan Haji Hassanal Bolkia of Brunei, Prime Minister Nguyen Tan Dung will head the Vietnamese delegation to attend the 23rd ASEAN Summit and related meetings in Bandar Seri Begawan, Brunei from October 9 – 10, 2013.

Prime Minister Nguyen Tan Dung and other ASEAN leaders will exchange views focusing on the consolidation of unity and cooperation in ASEAN to maintain a peaceful and stable environment to support the region’s development goal, the efforts to build the ASEAN Community by 2015 and the post-2015 direction for ASEAN, the ASEAN’s centrality in regional architecture, the deepening ASEAN’s relations with its partners within the framework of ASEAN+1, ASEAN+3, EAS, as well as regional and international issues of common interest.

Deputy Prime Minister Hoang Trung Hai to attend the 4th Global Entrepreneurship Summit (Oct. 11 – 12)

Deputy Prime Minister Hoang Trung Hai will attend the 4th Global Entrepreneurship Summit (GES) in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia from October 11 to 12, 2013.

Under the theme “Empowering and Connecting Entrepreneurs”, the meeting will convene high-level national leaders and around 3,000 leading regional and international entrepreneurs.

The summit will discuss policies to assist business and investment operations, and promote business connectivity. Deputy Prime Minister Hoang Trung Hai will speak on Viet Nam’s economic integration into the region and the world,  business – investment environment, policy for foreign investors, and cooperation and connection between Vietnamese and foreign businesses.

Chinese Premier Li Keqiang to visit Viet Nam (Oct. 13 – 15)

At the invitation of Prime Minister Nguyen Tan Dung, the Premier of the State Council of the People’s Republic of China Li Keqiang will pay an official visit to Viet Nam from October 13 to 15, 2013.

This is the first official visit to Viet Nam by a Chinese senior leader since China has a new leadership. The visit is of great significance to the consolidation and strengthening of political trust and the promotion of two countries’ comprehensive strategic partnership.

Two ministers will exchange views on directions and measures to promote bilateral ties in-depth and in substance in all areas, especially in trade and economics, as well as on regional and international issues of mutual interest.

Premier Li Keqiang is expected to call on Viet Nam’s senior leaders, meet Vietnamese businesses, attend the Viet Nam – China Youth and Students Exchange, and visit economic and cultural facilities in Ha Noi.

QUESTIONS AND ANSWERS

Question: Please provide Viet Nam’s view of the US government’s shutdown.  Has it affected the bilateral relations?

Answer:

After the shutdown of the US government, the two countries have maintained cooperation activities and exchange visits. Most recently, the two countries held their sixth annual political-security-defense dialogue in Washington DC on October 1. Diplomatic representative missions of the two countries are open and maintain normal operation.

We hope that the situation is only temporary and will not have any impact on the bilateral relations and that the US Government will soon be back to work./.
