Remarks by FM Spokesman Le Hai Binh on 28 February, 2014

On February 28, 2014, in response to question from the media regarding US Department of State's 2013 Country Report on Human Rights Practices which includes assessments on human rights situation in Viet Nam, Foreign Ministry Spokesman Le Hai Binh stated:

Ensuring human rights is a focus of Viet Nam’s economic and social development policies. Viet Nam’s efforts have been recognized by the international community in the UN Human Rights Council's Universal Periodic Review, the second cycle in February, 2014.

Some assesements in the report are based on inaccurate information and false to reflect objectivity of Viet Nam’s human rights reality.

Viet Nam is willing to have constructive and straight dialogue with countries, including the United States, which have different views on human rights, to enhance mutual understanding, abridge differences, thereby improving accuracy and objectiveness in evaluation on Viet Nam’s human rights practices.
