Remarks by MOFA Spokesperson Le Hai Binh on China's ligthouses on drummond island and antelope reef
(MOFA) - On 13 October 2015, answering reporters’ question on Viet Nam’s response to China’s completion of two lighthouses on two features of Crescent Group, namely Duy Mong (Drummond) Island and Hai Sam (Antelope) Reef, in the Hoang Sa (Paracel) Archipelago of Viet Nam, MOFA Spokesperson Le Hai Binh stated:
“Viet Nam has consitently refuted the legitimacy of the so-called ‘Sansha City’. The declaration of the so-called ‘Sansha City Administration’ on the completion of two lighthouses on Vietnamese features in the Hoang Sa Archipelago is yet another serious violation of Viet Nam’s sovereignty over the Hoang Sa Archipelago, international law and the DOC signed between the ASEAN and China in 2002. This action escalates tension and seriously threatens peace and stability in the region. China’s actions in Viet Nam’s Hoang Sa Archipelago, in any form and on any purpose, are null and void.
Once again, we request China to respect Viet Nam’s sovereignty and international law, the DOC and immediately stop wrongful actions.”
