Remarks by MOFA's Spokesperson Le Hai Binh regarding Viet Nam’s reaction to the 2nd “Sansha” municipal people’s congress election and the Chinese patrolling of the waters around Hoang Sa islands
On October 3rd, 2016, MOFA Spokeperson Le Hai Binh made the following remarks in response to questions from the media regarding Viet Nam’s reaction to the 2nd “Sansha” municipal people’s congress election and the Chinese patrolling of the waters around Hoang Sa islands:
“Viet Nam has sufficient legal grounds and historical evidences to affirm its sovereignty over Hoang Sa (Paracel) and Truong Sa (Spartly) Archipelagos. The 2nd municipal people’s congress election held by China in the so called “Sansha city” which China illegally established and the Chinese unlawful patrolling of the waters of Hoang Sa Archipelago are serious violations of Viet Nam’s sovereignty. Those illegal actions will not change the fact that Viet Nam has sovereignty over Hoang Sa and Truong Sa Archipelagos.
Viet Nam resolutely protests those actions and asks China to respect Viet Nam’s sovereignty, end the aforesaid wrongful actions and to strictly observe the Declaration of the conducts of parties in the South China Sea (DOC) and the Viet Nam – China Agreement on basic principles guiding the settlement of maritime issues.”
