Remarks by MOFA Spokesperson Le Hai Binh on US State Department’s Human Rights Reports 2016

In response to questions asked by reporters relating to the US State Department’s Human Rights Reports for 2016, Viet Nam’s Foreign Ministry spokesman Le Hai Binh said on 13 March 2017:

"The consistent policy of Viet Nam is to protect and promote the basic rights of its citizens. Viet Nam’s efforts and achievements in incessantly ensuring and improving the basic human rights of its citizens over the past time have been acknowledged and highly valued by the international community.

Viet Nam is always willing to discuss in a frank, open and constructive manner with all countries, including the United States, any remaining differences. So far, Viet Nam and the United States have conducted 20 rounds of annual bilateral dialogue on human rights.

The US State Department’s Human Rights Reports for 2016 acknowledged some of Viet Nam’s achievements in protecting human rights, but makes some prejudiced remarks that do not reflect the real situation in the country".
