Remarks by the Deputy Spokesperson of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Viet Nam Duong Hoai Nam on results of ASEAN’s initiatives and priorities implementation in 2020
(MOFA) - At the MOFA’s regular press conference on 5 November 2020, responding to media query on results of ASEAN’s initiatives and priorities implementation, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs Deputy Spokesperson Duong Hoai Nam said:
In the spirit of “Cohesive and Responsive”, this year the ASEAN has successfully completed “the dual missions” in keeping pace of the ASEAN community building, meanwhile combating with the COVID-19 pandemic and pushing comprehensive recovery.
Until now, the ASEAN has basically completed all priorities and initiatives in 2020 as set in the roadmap, including midterm evaluation of the ASEAN Community Vision 2025, review of the ASEAN Charter implementation, issueance of Hanoi Declaration on ASEAN Community Vision 2025, and lastly, incorporation of sub-region development with process of building the ASEAN community for the causes of sustainable development and initiatives on building images and rasing awareness of the ASEAN community.
Regarding initiatives on the COVID-19 pandemic response, the ASEAN response fund has received contribution of US$10m. from ASEAN members and partners. The ASEAN medical supply reserve, the standard procedures for medical emergency response, and ASEAN centre for response to new emerging disease will be announced at the coming 37th ASEAN Summit.
